Santa Fe Public Schools primarily will call a school delay or closure due to poor road conditions and to ensure the safety and security of faculty, staff, students and families traveling to and from school.
Secondarily, we built time for inclement weather into the calendar and if it’s not used we sometimes will use it for staff professional development and training. This year, because we were in remote learning and it appeared doubtful that we would require many additional snow days, the majority of that time was used for professional development this year to help teachers and staff continue their training to improve remote learning.
Lastly, as you may know the legislature is looking at adding school days to this school year because of its concern regarding the impact of remote learning and loss of in person instruction.
It would be highly imprudent on my part to call for a snow day or delay when we are not transporting students to school and we have very little in the calendar for snow days because we used it for professional development. In other words, we would have to add days back. And there is a large collective concern for a lack of in-person learning this school year. I thank you in advance for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Veronica C. Garcia, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
Atentamente,
Verónica C. García, Ed.D. Superintendente de escuelas
